What to Do With Your Excess Milk?

A cow can produce 1720 gallons of milk a year.  That’s a lot of milk.  If you’re drinking plenty of milk and crafting your own cheese (plus sampling ours over at rawcheese.com for inspiration), you may still have the problem of excess milk.  What to do in such a dilemma?  Why not try making…
Yogurt
Yogurt is one of the easiest dairy products to create.  Very simply it is created by taking milk and yogurt cultures, blending, and incubating for a desired length of time.  There are several ways to do this, including the oven, a yogurt maker, or even a crockpot.
Butter/Buttermilk
Oh, yum.  Everything tastes better with butter.  Bread, baked potatoes, muffins, fruit… (Okay maybe not everything).  Making butter used to be super time consuming, now with modern appliances it can be very easy.  Buttermilk is a by-product of making butter and is a great ingredient for baking.
Ice Cream
Homemade ice cream tastes so much better than store bought, and you don’t have to worry about dangerous additives. You can make ice cream with or without an ice cream maker.
Sour Cream
Sour cream is incredibly easy to make with raw milk.  You simply separate the cream from the milk and allow the cream to sour on its own.  If you pasteurize your milk, you can make sour cream this way.
What ways do you use your extra milk?
